Pumpkin Carving Festival

6th Annual Pumpkin Carving Festival at Windward Mall

Master Carver from Michigan, Ed Moody, will be making an encore appearance at the 6th Annual Pumpkin Carving Festival on Saturday, October 24, from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. Moody will transform one of his 1,200 lb. pumpkins into a Fairytales & Dreams pumpkin carriage. Each year, Matson, Safeway and the Honolulu Star Advertiser present this exciting family event at Windward Mall. “Windward Mall provides an excellent community setting to kick off the fall season in a festive atmosphere,” says Billie Gabriel, founder of the festival. Proceeds will benefit Keiki O Ka Aina Family Learning Centers and the Metro Christian Academy Preschool.

More than 2,000 parents and kids will be carving their pumpkins at the festival. There will be arts and crafts for kids, a Windward Mall Scavenger Hunt for the “Grass Slippa”, and door prizes. Starting at 11 a.m., high school teams will compete in the Meadow Gold Dairies KULA Carving Youth Challenge. The theme for this year’s competition is Hawaii Sports Legends. Students will be given two hours to carve five pumpkins and create a display showcasing their sports legend. Cash and prize awards will be given for Best Overall, Best Carving Technique, Most Innovative, Best Team Spirit, People’s Choice, and 76Hawaii School Pride.

If you would like to sponsor your high school in the competition, contact Billie Gabriel at 497-7264. To make reservations and pre-purchase family packages, call 945-1005 or visit PumpkinCarvingFestival.com.
